I am Simoné (Kriek) van Rooyen. I am currently employed as Head of Department (Cambridge International Curriculum, grades 8-12) at Ashton John’s Private School. I was formerly employed as a Lecturer at the Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management, North-West University (NWU).
I hold a BSc degree in Tourism (Cum Laude), a BSc Honours degree in Environmental Sciences, and an MPhil degree in Environmental Law and Governance. I am currently enrolled in a PhD programme in Science with a focus on Geography and Environmental Management at the NWU.
I am a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
I published a dissertation in 2016 and chapters on solid waste management in books in 2017 and 2022.
I provided study supervision to four master’s degree students who graduated and edited eight dissertations and one thesis.
I delivered presentations at the IAIA, South Africa conference in 2012 and the African Organisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions conference in 2014.
I completed numerous short courses and projects in environmental, occupational health and safety, and mine health and safety law, as well as environmental management systems, environmental risk assessment and management.
I also developed, coordinated, facilitated, and presented internal, external, and e-learning short courses on the topics mentioned. Additionally, I have been involved in teaching and learning for master’s degree programmes and currently teach grades 8 and 9 Cambridge and CAPS curricula.
